- Around the corner in Pooler, the first-ever Women’s Wellness Fair and Luncheon was held on Wednesday, May 24 at the Georgia Tech-Savannah campus. The event was hosted by the Pooler Area Chamber of Commerce and featured of variety of vendors that all focused on one goal of empowering women. In addition, they featured three amazing guest speakers including Dr. Jessica Wilder, radiologist at the Center for Women’s Health, Amy Capello, owner of Pure Joy Life Coaching, and Catherine Grant, CEO of ExperCARE. - Off the coast of Savannah, a massive Great White shark named Rose recently made another appearance swimming around in the area. According to researchers, Rose isn’t just another tiny Nurse shark as she’s 10.5ft long and has recently been spotted swimming around in the Daytona Beach area. However, Rose isn’t here to stay — she’s on a journey to head up north for the summer months. (WSAV)
- On Wednesday, May 24, the Georgia Historical Society announced that they raised a record-breaking $1.9 million from the Georgia History Festival they hosted last month. The festival’s goal was to able to elevate and expand history education opportunities throughout the state with a specific focus on grades K-12. According to President and CEO of the Georgia Historical Society Dr. W. Todd Groce, these new funds will go toward creating new educational programs for teachers and students, and will show young kids the importance of our nation’s history. (Fox 28 Savannah)

- According to the annual climate report card from William and Mary’s Virginia Institute of Marine Studies, Savannah residents can expect to see some of the biggest changes in sea level compared to any city in the country. This week, a group of Georgia’s climate-focused politicians met to discuss the state of the Coastal Empire’s climate resiliency efforts. Chatham County’s Commissioner Aaron ‘A-Dot’ Whitely says that with hurricane season upon us, individuals throughout Chatham County should start bracing for potential flooding. (Fox 28 Savannah)
- The Georgia Historical Society unveiled on Thursday morning a new historical marker that recognizes a lifelong Savannah resident. Mamie George Williams was born in 1872 and was an African American political and civic leader who volunteered with numerous organizations, as well as served as the carver state bank’s vice president. She also led the movement in registering 40,000 black women in Georgia to vote after the 19th Amendment was officially passed. (Savannah Now)
- Temperatures for Memorial Day weekend are looking like they’ll range from the upper 60s all the way to the lower 80s, according to the National Weather Service. A chance of rain will linger into Saturday from Friday’s forecast, and could even be expected a little into Sunday afternoon. Luckily, warm weather and clearer skies will return by Memorial Day on Monday, which is expected to be the nicest day of the weekend. (WTOC)
