[ad_1]

FUSE: Families United in Support of Excellence for all, especially students that identify as African American, and the Glenbard Parent Series will host an in-person program titled “Valuing and Celebrating Our Students’ Success” with the Rev. Derrick B. Wells.

The program will begin at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 14, at Glenbard West High School, 670 Crescent Blvd. in Glen Ellyn.

To be placed on a reminder list for GPS events or submit a question in advance, contact Gilda Ross, Glenbard District 87 student and community projects coordinator, at gilda_ross@glenbard.org or (630) 942-7668.

Saluting our students’ leadership skills and academic performance will be the focus of this family event. Wells will share the challenges he faced as an adolescent in inner-city Chicago. Changing his life from one of trouble to one of triumph fuels his dedication to inspiring transformation in students.

Wells will offer a blueprint for a happy, healthy and high-functioning life. Teens will be encouraged to set goals, demonstrate resilience when setbacks occur and better understand how their efforts today can lead to future success. Adult participants will learn how to help young people overcome obstacles, reach their potential, use their gifts and achieve their dreams.

Continuing professional development units are available for this event.

Wells is an award-winning artist, CEO and senior minister at Christ Universal Temple in Chicago. He is the author of “Live Happy: 365 Daily Practices for a Happier Life.”

The Glenbard Parent Series is generously sponsored by the Cebrin Goodman Center, Community Consolidated School District 93 Birth to 5 Coalition, Cooperative Association for Special Education (CASE), College of DuPage, Duly Health and Care, DuPage Regional Office of Education, Emmy Gaffey Foundation, Glenbard Early Childhood Collaborative, Kids Matter, Kiwanis Clubs, Prevention Leadership Team of the DuPage County Health Department, and Webb-Hutter Family Fund of DuPage Foundation.
