Culver’s open again in Jackson after car crashed through window
It was a normal day at the Culver’s fast-food restaurant in Jackson on Thursday, Oct. 26.
Inside the restaurant at 3471 O’Neill Drive, employees were taking orders and customers were being served their food. It was a little slow since it was 2 p.m. and past the lunch rush, but the pace picked up quickly when a car crashed into the building, Owner Karen Richard said.
Scammer posing as Jackson Sheriff Sgt. trying to dupe residents by threatening arrest
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office is assuring residents Tuesday one of its deputies is not calling residents threating to arrest them if they don’t pay up in gift cards.
The sheriff’s office issued a scam alert Tuesday, Oct. 31, warning residents police have been receiving reports that a Sgt. Scott Watson from the sheriff’s office has been contacting residents they missed a court date or were subpoenaed and were subject to arrest, police said.
The Nov. 7 general election is almost here. This is on the ballot in Jackson County
Voters in Jackson County will head to the polls on Tuesday, Nov. 7.
The city of Jackson has the largest general election ballot, as the mayor’s seat and multiple city council seats are up for election, while voters in other parts of the county will decide on school bond proposals and a recall election in Parma Township.
Blankets, gloves and winter coats needed to help keep Jackson residents warm
Donations are being sought to help Jackson residents in need keep warm this winter.
The annual Cup of Joe & Blanket to Go event from Calvary Apostolic Church, 260 W. Prospect St., aims to help fill that need.
Donations of new and gently-used coats, blankets, hats, glove, scarves and other winter apparel are being accepted from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 4, at the church.
$30K reported stolen from recently deceased Jackson man’s bank account in over 100 transactions
More than $30,000 is missing from a recently deceased man’s bank account, taken over the span of a month in more than 100 fraudulent transactions, police say.
Police were called Oct. 25 to investigate a reported fraud after family of the victim, while going through his estate affairs, noticed a sizable amount of activity happening on the victim’s bank account shortly after his death, according to the Jackson Police Department.

Tavion William Beasley was bound over to Jackson County Circuit Court for trial after his Oct. 24 preliminary examination before Jackson County District Judge Allison Bates, who found there was enough evidence in the case to allow it to move forward, court records show.
College and Career Access aims to bridge gaps to post-secondary success in Jackson
Now nearing the end of its 16th year serving Jackson County, the College and Career Access Center (CCAC) is looking to expand the amount of opportunities — and the knowledge of how to grasp those opportunities — for post-secondary education and career-training in the area.

Community grant opportunities will help Jackson Community Foundation celebrate 75 years
The Jackson Community Foundation is celebrating 75 years of investing in Jackson County by offering community grant opportunities.
Founded in 1965, the foundation is offering $75,000 in community choice grants to local organizations in collaboration with Henry Ford Jackson Hospital’s Health Improvement Organization, the Consumers Energy Foundation Endowment Fund, the African American Community Endowment Fund and the JCF’s Community Needs Fund, officials said.
Columbia School District ends superintendent search as interim begins contract talks
Columbia Schools District’s current interim superintendent is one step closer to making his position permanent.
After two rounds of interviews with potential superintendent candidates, the Columbia School Board moved to enter contract negotiations to officially hire Jim Baker — who currently serves as the district’s interim superintendent. Baker was the sole remaining candidate to be interviewed during a Monday, Oct. 30 meeting.
What’s that? A Jackson business has moved to a new downtown location
An in-home health care provider has moved its regional headquarters in Jackson to a new facility.
Elara Caring has moved from 900 Cooper St. to the fourth floor of The Commonwealth Commerce Center, 209 E. Washington Ave., to better connect with residents, company officials said.
