Actress Denise Dowse passes away at age 64. Yesterday her sister, Tracey, announced the sad news via Instagram.

“I want to take this moment to thank our friends and family for all the love and prayers. It is with a very heavy heart that I inform everyone that my sister, Denise Dowse, has gone forward to meet our family in eternal life,” she shared. “Denise Yvonne Dowse was the most amazing sister, a consummate, illustrious actress, mentor, and director. She was my very best friend and final family member.”

Sadly, the news comes after Dowse’s sister shared that the “Insecure” star was hospitalized and was in a coma due to meningitis.

The Legacy of Denise Dowse

Denise Dowse was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, on Feb. 21, 1958. She graduated from Norfolk State University before starting her acting career. Her first credit came in 1989 with a one-episode appearance in the series “Almost There!”

As Dowse’s career progressed, she starred in the iconic teen drama “Beverly Hills 90210,” Insecure, “The Guardian,” and numerous other roles on TV. In addition to her career in television, the actress starred in multiple films, including the musical drama “Ray.” She also starred in films like “Pleasantville” and “Requiem for a Dream” and “Coach Carter.” Dowse directed the upcoming historical biopic “Remember Me: The Mahalia Jackson Story.”
