A 52-year-old Cheyenne transient is behind bars after allegedly taking a wooden 4×4 to the man she was staying with.
According to arrest records, police were called to an assault at 2100 E. 12th St. at about 2:37 p.m. on Saturday, May 27.
Police say the victim told them that about three weeks prior he had let June K. Derksen stay at his residence during a storm, but she then began staying there without permission and he knew the landlord was trying to evict her.
When he confronted Derksen about the situation, she reportedly picked up a 4×4 piece of wood and struck him in the head, injuring him. He then fled the area to call the police.
Derksen reportedly told police that she lived at the residence and owned it, that the victim was mean to her, and that she never touched him.
Derksen was arrested and booked into the Laramie County Detention Center on an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon charge, a felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
She made her initial appearance in Laramie County Circuit Court this (Tuesday) morning, during which she was informed of the charge against her.
Her bond was set at $3,000 cash and her preliminary hearing was scheduled for next Wednesday, June 7, at 1:30 p.m.
