Beach Reads and Book Club with Annabel Monaghan
What: It’s beach read season, and what better way to celebrate it than with a beach read and cocktail event with Annabel Monaghan, author “Nora Goes Off Script,” to talk about her newest book, “Same Time Next Summer.” Annabel will be in the bookstore for an author talk, signing and toast to the books that make summer beach reading so much fun. Two ticket options are offered: general admission and “a book is your ticket.” For those of you who would like to participate in the book club discussion, Buxton Books recommends purchasing the latter option. When you purchase this ticket, your copy of “Same Time Next Summer” will be available for pickup.

The Lowcountry Gullah Experience: A Lecture by Corey Alston
What: Billed as one of the most celebrated Gullah Geechee artists in the nation, Corey Alston is a direct ancestor of a family that has been weaving sweetgrass baskets for nearly five generations. The art itself is more than 300 years old and traces its origins back to West Africa. During this lecture, guests will meet with Alston to learn more about his artistic process, the history of basket weaving and its legacy throughout the Lowcountry.

Dance Performance by Watoto Academy of Performing Arts

Day of Hope: Community Wellness Fair
What: Check out North Charleston’s third annual Day of Hope hosted by The Palmetto Palace, a local organization dedicated to bringing underserved individuals quality health care. There will be a Wellness Fair to both increase awareness of the health care deficit in the Lowcountry as well as provide access to on-site health screenings for fair attendees. Gumshoes: A Whodunnit?
What: At the renowned Enigma Hotel, lovers of fictional crime solvers from near and far have gathered to celebrate this year’s Detectives Convention. But when the unveiling of a priceless art exhibit goes awry, the many “detectives” in attendance have to put the pieces together to figure out the culprit. They may not be real detectives; they may just be “mystery-philes” in costumes. But, they still have theories about exactly “whodunnit?” This is performed by the HEART Inclusive Arts Community.

Redux Studios Summer Camp
What: Redux Studios invites 10-13 year olds in for a weeklong summer camp teaching a variety of artistic abilities. The sculpture class will explore materials like paper mâche, clay, cardboard, fibers and more with Shelby Corso. The fashion, costume and character illustration class will give campers the inside scoop from Broadway industry professional Heather Carey as they learn to make illustrative fashion drawings and costume and character designs.
