A new pizzeria is coming to Murrells Inlet with a deep history in the business.
Mulberry Street NY Pizzeria is set to begin serving pies soon, with a potential opening the week of July 10, said operator Chris Nakis.
The restaurant will be also run by Joanne and Antonios Nakis— Chris’s wife and son. Antonios, who is currently going to Coastal Carolina University, wanted to open a restaurant Chris said, and the family decided to open Mulberry Street in Murrells Inlet.
“We just love the area,” Chris Nakis said.
The family has previous experience in the restaurant business. The Nakis’s owned restaurants in Connecticut, including two hotdog and burger restaurants and a pizzeria called The Greek Guy, before retiring to the Grand Strand. Mulberry Street will be the family’s return to the restaurant industry.
The Menu
Mulberry Steet will serve pizza, but it will also run different daily dinner specials. Nakis said customers will be able to order dishes like pasta with homemade meatballs and asiago cheese, carbonara— a pasta dish served with pork, pepper and eggs— and Arancini— a golden, brown cheesy rice ball.
In a Facebook post, the pizzeria said that it would release its full menu the July 8 weekend. The restaurant will also receive its ovens and signage early next week.
“Every day is going to be something different,” Chris said. “It all depends on what comes in fresh that day. It will definitely be mixed up.”
Chris Nakis had worked at several prominent restaurants before opening his own establishments. Nakis’s resume includes working at John’s of Bleecker Street, one of the earliest and most respected pizzerias in New York City.
Mulberry Street NY Pizzeria will hire 10 people to run the restaurant, and it is located at 3120 South US Highway 17 Business.
