Thank you for publishing Nicole Villalpando’s uplifting recounting of her kidney donation experience.
What a heartwarming story to read during an otherwise hate- and discord-filled time period and such a powerful ray of light breaking through Sunday’s cloudy Austin skies. The writer’s altruism and generosity prove that grace and personal courage are alive and well among humanity. While I am too old to be an organ donor, I sincerely hope that this story will encourage others to sign up for the gift of life.

Villalpando’s ‘invigorating’ kidney donation
story resonated with an appreciative reader
Reading about Nicole Villalpando’s experience of her kidney donation was invigorating and heart-warming. I love to see these kinds of stories in the news where we learn about the goodness in people who help fill a life-saving need for organs.
I had a sister who had a liver transplant and I believe by the time they found her a match, she had declined in health significantly, such that it made it almost impossible for her to recover from the surgery because she had already developed so many other complications.
I also have a cousin in Rosenberg who has been on a kidney list for over a year.
Please keep writing stories like these about people who do more than hope for things to happen and instead make them happen.

Praise for a writer’s storytelling and
her unselfish act to help a stranger
As a bladder cancer survivor, I applaud Nicole Villalpando’s heroic decision to donate a kidney to a stranger. Her account brought tears as I read it. She is a genuinely unselfish woman and an incredible storyteller.
The details of her medical marathon also illustrated Dell Medical’s super team of physicians. God bless you, Nicole.

getting dismissed by Fox News
The sad thing isn’t that Tucker Carlson got fired by Fox News (shouldn’t we say Faux News?). And, no, the sad thing isn’t that Tucker Carlson got fired by Fox News for knowingly lying to Fox News viewers about the 2020 election.
The sad thing is that Tucker Carlson got fired by Fox News for getting caught telling the truth in writing, behind the scenes, about knowingly lying to Fox News viewers about the 2020 election.

The GOP twists a definition to mean
acknowledging wrong is inherently bad
Re: Apr 2 commentary, “Would Jimmy Carter’s decency be considered ‘woke’?”
The word ‘woke’ originally arose among African Americans meaning awareness of injustices directed at people of color – later expanded to include other marginalized folks.
But sadly, that definition has been grotesquely twisted by the GOP to mean that acknowledging and then working to correct wrongs is inherently bad.
As such, Republicans have likely already cast Presidents Harry Truman and Lyndon Johnson into to the odious den of ‘wokeness’ for their pro-civil rights ‘transgressions.’
And are the best among us also ‘woke?’

Lawmaker concedes voting problems haven’t
been discovered but he files his bill anyway
lawmaker files Sen. Bob Hall wants to close countywide voting locations with Senate Bill 990. According to the article Sen. Hall justifies this “not because any problems have been found” but because election deniers “just don’t trust them.”
According to Hall, “You will only find what you look for,” but he’s been looking for problems and hasn’t found any.

Legislators in these states seem not
to know how a democracy functions
Someone should remind the legislators in Tennessee and Montana that the way democracy works is that the majority allows people who disagree with them to speak and then takes a vote, which the majority would expect to win.
If they want to live in a society where minority opinions are not allowed to be spoken, they should move to one of the countries that already have a fascist government, such as China, Russia, or North Korea, rather than trying to impose fascism on the people of the United States of America.
