Baldwin Campaign: Tammy Tuesdays: June 20, 2023
[ad_1]
Hi folks! Welcome back to Tammy Tuesdays, our weekly update email on Tammy’s work and the big fights she’s taking on for Wisconsin families.
Tammy knows that there’s more that unites us than divides us. She understands that Wisconsin’s working families all want good-paying jobs, affordable healthcare, and the same freedoms their parents and grandparents had.
Read below for highlights of what Tammy worked on this week:
Commemorating Juneteenth
Yesterday, Tammy commemorated Juneteenth at the 2023 Milwaukee Juneteenth Parade, which is one of the oldest and largest Juneteenth celebrations in the country. Juneteenth marks our country’s second independence day, and is a day in which we celebrate our Black communities in Wisconsin and across the country who have made our nation stronger, better, and unified.
While Juneteenth was just recognized as a federal holiday two years ago, our Black communities are the ones who put in years-long work to make it happen and have been keeping Juneteenth celebrations, like Milwaukee’s, alive for generations. Tammy understands that while Juneteenth is a celebration of the progress our country has made, it is also a reminder of how much work we still have to do. With constant attacks on our freedoms, Tammy promises that she will always fight to make Wisconsin a place of inclusivity, safety, and opportunity for all who live here.

Standing Up for Our Freedoms
Almost a year ago today, the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, sending the country 50 years back in time. In Wisconsin, this meant that the 1849 abortion ban became the law of the land, which bans abortions even in cases of rape and incest, and can criminally prosecute doctors for providing life saving care. Despite this, Wisconsinites have fought harder than ever to regain their freedoms.
That’s why Tammy will always stand shoulder to shoulder with Wisconsinites in the fight to take back our rights. This week, Tammy was proud to introduce legislation that will support our health care professionals by making sure they have the training and education necessary to meet the urgent reproductive health care needs of women across the country. By supporting our health care professionals, we are supporting the countless women in states like Wisconsin, who have been denied access to reproductive health care. Until we codify the right to choose into law, Tammy is going to work harder than ever to help Wisconsinites get the reproductive health care they need.
Strengthening Made in America Technology
Tammy knows that America has the best workers in the world. But over the last few decades, our workers have faced an uphill battle as they fight for good paying jobs and against the outsourcing and the lowballing from overseas countries. After hearing that a taxpayer-funded battery technology invented in a federal lab was licensed to a Chinese company and was now being manufactured in China, Tammy knew she had to stand up for our workers.
This week, Tammy was proud to introduce the bipartisan Invent Here, Make Here Act, that ensures American taxpayer-funded technologies are manufactured right here in the United States. Because if we’re making innovative technology in America, then the American people and American workers should reap the benefits – not our overseas competitors.
Cracking Down on China
Tammy is committed to putting America first and that means strengthening our trade laws that will boost our economy and keep our communities safe. Right now, a current trade tax loophole is allowing China and other countries to import counterfeit and cheap products potentially made by slave labor into the U.S. Additionally, this loophole has allowed for the trafficking of illicit drugs like fentanyl into our communities.
Tammy is working across the aisle to close this dangerous trade loophole in the De Minimis Reciprocity Act. This legislation will protect our American manufacturers who work hard to make nothing but the best products and will keep illicit drugs from entering our communities. Tammy is ready to work with anyone in order to come up with solutions that put Americans first and keep our communities safe.
Supporting Our Farmers
Tammy believes that American farmers produce the best products in the world, and in order to keep them going strong we need to make sure they have all the tools and resources they need. From having to be competitive at the global level to keeping up with a rapidly growing population size, our farmers are under a lot of stress.
Right now, Tammy is working across the aisle to pass innovative legislation that will improve the efficiency of American meat and dairy production. This bipartisan legislation will level the playing field for American farmers on the global stage, reduce emissions and support our climate goals, and bolster our rural economy. Tammy knows that our farmers are the backbone of our country, and will always work hard to do right by them.
Preparing Wisconsinites for the Weather
Tammy knows that in Wisconsin, the one thing we can always count on is unpredictable weather. Because of this constant unpredictability, Tammy knows how important it is that our weather systems have the most up-to-date technology that can predict and track extreme weather events.
Wisconsin was one of the few states in the country that was lagging behind in weather technology, so Tammy secured funding that is going to expand Wisconsin’s weather station network and provide real-time data on temperature, rainfall, and soil conditions. The weather affects us all, and Tammy is working hard to make sure that we’re prepared for whatever the Wisconsin weather brings our way.
