The needs are widespread, so there are plenty of opportunities to give, based on responses The Journal Gazette received when it asked nonprofit organizations in the Fort Wayne area to share their wish lists.

Those who did are listed below, alphabetically, with the information they provided edited in some cases for brevity.

A Mother’s Hope

Mission: A refuge for homeless, pregnant women that strengthens their opportunities for stability. The vision is to offer new futures for women, children and generations.

Agape Mobility Ethiopia

Mission: To promote the joy of giving and provide mobility solutions to children, teens, and adults with disabilities in Ethiopia so that they can be empowered to live fulfilling purposeful lives. We believe all children should be offered the dignity of mobility. We want to offer a transformation that opens doors to education, employment opportunities and community.

Community Harvest Food Bank

Mission: The nonprofit charitable organization operates in Indiana to alleviate hunger through the full use of donated food and other resources.

Wish list: Small floor scrubber (higher priority than large scrubber) and a large floor scrubber. Also: winter gloves, 1-2 pairs freezer gloves, 12 reflective safety vests for volunteers, six utility knives, Keurig machine, small desk or rectangular table.

Empty Cupboards

Mission: Caters to those who are faced with unsettling circumstances, misplaced or low income and need items such as clothing, food, or even just a prayer.

Wish list: Coats, jackets, sweaters, thermal underwear, hats, scarves, gloves, and thick socks. Sleeping pads or blankets: These provide insulation from the cold ground. Personal hygiene items: Toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, hand sanitizer, wet wipes, and menstrual hygiene products. Backpacks or duffel bags: These are essential for carrying and organizing personal belongings. Warm accessories: Hand warmers, foot warmers, and thermal blankets offer additional warmth. Reusable water bottles: Staying hydrated is crucial, even in colder weather. Rain gear: Waterproof ponchos or raincoats to protect against rain and moisture. Canned goods: Canned fruits, vegetables, soups, and meats (such as tuna, chicken, or beans). Granola bars: Nutritious and easy-to-carry snacks that provide energy. Dried fruits and nuts: Lightweight, nutritious, and with a long shelf life. Crackers or rice cakes: These can be eaten independently or paired with spreads like peanut butter or cheese. Instant oatmeal or cereal: Quick and easy to prepare, providing warmth and nutrition. Canned beans or legumes: A good source of protein and fiber. Jerky or dried meat: Provides a source of protein that doesn’t require refrigeration. Erin’s House for Grieving Children

Mission: Erin’s House provides support for children, teens, and their families who have experienced a death.

Faith & Light Food Pantry

Mission: We strive to do our best to supply the basic needs of a large number of families in our area.

Wish list: More volunteers, some to interpret for Hispanic and Burmese families. A wish for a donation or someone to donate their time to epoxy the concrete floor so that cleanup is easier and does not require repainting every year. Also could use non-perishable food items, fresh fruit and vegetables, and monetary donations.

The FRIENDS of the University Pantry at Purdue Fort Wayne

Mission: To be stocked with perishable and non-perishable foods to help food-insecure members of the university, including students, staff, faculty, along with aiding the community. The Pantry provides resources so students do not need to decide between buying food or going to school, thus, helping to create a future where higher education will be an opportunity for everyone. We are committed to being a reliable and stable supplemental food source while providing resources to fight food insecurity on campus and in the community.

Veterans National Memorial Shrine and Museum

Vincent Village Inc.

Mission: The agency’s targeted intervention strategies are intended to break the cycle of generational homelessness and guide families on the path to regaining self-reliance. Vincent Village is the only transitional housing program exclusively serving families in the greater Fort Wayne area. The mission is to provide “homeless families a long-term continuum of care, training, and resources with empathy, dignity, and accountability.”
