Another day of battling flames on two big fires in the region. The Cow Canyon Fire burning north of Naches. The fire remains at 5,600 acres with no containment.
So far no structures have burned but evacuation notices are in place.
Evacuation notices are still in place
Level 3 “must leave immediately” Evacuation notices are in place for Maloy and Audubon Roads near the blaze. A mandatory evacuation notice was also issued for everyone south and west of Umptanum and Shuskin roads which includes other roads like Overlook Road, Coyote Run, Long Tom Canyon Road, Durr Road and Wenas Road.
If you need a place to stay the Selah Civic Center is now an emergency shelter.
Department of Fish and Wildlife officials have closed the Wenas Wildlife Area.
The cause remains under investigation. No injuries reported.
The Vantage Highway Fire didn’t grow overnight with containment set for Monday
Meanwhile firefighters are holding the Vantage Highway Fire at 26, 490 acres at 35% containment up from 21% early Thursday. Firefighters say the weather is giving them a break Friday with cooler winds and more humidity. Vantage Highway is now open. There are no evacuation notices for the Vantage Highway Fire. A press release says “After the passage of the cold front Thursday, temperatures are rising Friday, with low humidity expected. Winds will shift to the northeast later this morning,which may cause an up tick in fire activity on the south and west flanks. Spot fires are possible as the wind is expected to push the fire westward into the wind mill farm.
Fire officials are aiming for Monday, August 8 for full containment of the fire.
The cause remains under investigation.
Another big fire destroyed homes in the city of Lind Washington
The city of Lind was evacuated on Thursday because of a big wildfire that impacted homes. The Associated Press reports “The Adams County Sheriff’s Office says residents of Lind needed to flee due to the encroaching flames. Later Thursday, Sheriff Dale Wagner said six homes had burned as well as eight other structures. With the help of state and local resources, Wagner said the fire was starting to calm down and evacuations were lifted.”
