Future of Gault Middle School to be decided Nov. 8

[ad_1]

The Tacoma City Council’s Infrastructure, Planning, and Sustainability Committee will be considering the Landmarks Preservation Commission Recommendation for 1115 E. Division St. (Gault Middle school) to be placed on the City’s historic register.

The City’s Landmarks Preservation Commission has recommended the denial of a demolition permit for Gault Middle School, and that Gault meets the criteria for possible addition to the City’s Register of Historic Places. The City’s Infrastructure, Planning and Sustainability Committee members will consider those recommendations at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 8.

Tacoma citizen Morgan Alexander, who is trying to save the school, reports that Councilmember Catherine Ushka is in support of demolition and the other council members seem to be deferring to her. Alexander is asking Tacoma residents to email everyone on the Infrastructure, Planning, and Sustainability Committee and let them know they should support the Landmarks Preservation Commission Recommendation to place Gault on the City’s Historic Register. This alone isn’t a guarantee to save Gault, but it’s a step in the right direction.
