Howl-O-Ween dog costume contest at Hoboken Community Center
The second annual Howl-O-Ween dog costume contest and parade fundraiser at the Hoboken Community Center takes place on Saturday, Oct. 28, at 2 p.m. in Church Square Park in Hoboken.
There will be more than 100 registered dogs who will compete, more than 20 pet supply vendors, food trucks, and more! Local Mike Turner, Survivor 42 second place winner, will emcee the event.
Tickets for the event can be found online at Eventbrite. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Hoboken Community Center.
Church Square Park is located at 400 Garden St., Hoboken.
Riverview Farmers Market hosts 9th annual Days of the Dead celebration
The Riverview Farmers Market kicks off their 9th annual Days of the Dead celebration with a giant puppet and community parade at Riverview Park on Sunday, Oct. 29, at noon.
A large communal memorial altar or “Ofrenda” will be constructed in the Riverview Park gazebo and remain standing through the official Día de Los Muertos on Thursday, Nov. 2, at which time traditional Mexican dance group Sueño Americano will close out the week-long celebration with a performance at 6 p.m. The Ofrenda is a cornerstone tradition of the holiday where residents can place photos of loved ones that have passed and offerings of food and flowers.
In addition to the giant puppet parade and altar, the day will also include live music from Mariachi Oro de Mexico, Sueño Americano, face painting, and entertainment for the whole family. Busy Bee Organics will be hosting mini pumpkin painting from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and the Riverview Neighborhood Association will host their annual Pet Costume Contest beginning around 1 p.m. at the market.
Originating with the Aztec people of Mexico, Días de Los Muertos or Days of the Dead is traditionally held Nov. 1 and 2 each year to honor the memory of lost loved ones through celebration.

North Bergen’s Trunk or Treat returns
North Bergen Mayor Nicholas Sacco and the Board of Commissioners, the North Bergen Police Department, and NB C.A.R.E.S. will be hosting North Bergen’s 8th annual Trunk or Treat event from noon to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 28, outside the Recreation Center at 6300 Meadowview Ave.
Residents will be decorating their cars for Halloween and distributing candy to kids. Those who are interested in decorating their car can sign up in advance by emailing afocaraccio@northbergen.org or messaging Aimee Focaraccio.
Those who wish to only attend the event need to show up on the day of with proof of residency.
Children are encouraged to dress up in their costumes to trick-or-treat. The NBPD’s Community Police Unit will also be sponsoring a patch of free pumpkins for kids to pick and take home.
Halloween on the Rooftop
RoofTop at Exchange Place is ready to host five days of darkness, dancing and debauchery at this year’s “Beyond the Graveyard” Halloween celebration from Oct. 27 to 31. The event will include a costume contest, Halloween-themed drinks, and a live DJ.

History programs at LSP
History programs continue at Liberty State Park on Wednesday, Nov. 1, with Architecture of the CRRNJ Terminal from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Visitors can join the park’s historic interpreter on a 90-minute walking tour of the CRRNJ Terminal building and learn about the variety of architectural features found throughout this impressive structure. The group will meet at the Information Desk inside the CRRNJ Terminal located at 1 Audrey Zapp Dr., Jersey City. The program is recommended for ages 10 and up.

Children must be accompanied by an adult, and you may register a maximum of six participants per reservation. Pets are not permitted on programs unless they are service animals.
Hoboken Harvest Festival and Artisan Craft Market
The Hoboken Harvest Festival takes place on Saturday, Nov. 4, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Pier A Park. There will also be an Artisan Craft Market from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. along the Sinatra Dr. walkway from 1st to 4th Streets.
The Festival will feature free activities for children including a hay maze, pony rides, a trackless train, horse and carriage rides, inflatables, face painting, balloon art and a pumpkin patch.
The Artisan Craft Market features work by local artists and crafters including paintings, photography, candles, jewelry, soaps and body products, fashion accessories, home decor and hand knits.
There will be live music throughout the day including The Americana Family Jamboree, Rockness Music, All Saints Episcopal Day School BOLD Arts Enrichment student dancers and the Garden Street School of Performing Arts.
Become a reproductive healthcare justice ambassador
The Latina Civic Foundation and the Latino Action Network Foundation is inviting the Latina community to the Gillian Student Union Building (GSUB) Room 129 at New Jersey City University (NJCU) to learn how to become a Reproductive Healthcare Justice Ambassador through their train-the-trainer program on Friday, Nov. 3, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
This workshop will provide the Latina community with the resources to combat the stigma surrounding abortion, understand policy implications and advocate for access to affordable reproductive healthcare.
Guests will learn to advocate for Latinas’ reproductive health care access, become comfortable demystifying the myth of reproductive rights for Latinas, and defend Latinas’ rights to make their own choices on when and how to become a mother.
This program is sponsored by Latina Civic Foundation and Latino Action Network Foundation with a grant from Planned Parenthood Action Fund of New Jersey.
Co-sponsors for this event include Speicher-Rubin Women’s Center for Equity and Diversity, Department of Women’s and Gender Studies, Department of African and African American Studies, Department of Latin American, Caribbean, and Latino Studies.
