Singer and body activist Lizzo and Live Nation will donate 1 million dollars to Planned Parenthood following the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe vs. Wade. The “About Damn Time” singer announced that she is pledging a $500,000 donation to Planned Parenthood from her upcoming Special Tour. Then Live Nation agreed to match Lizzo’s donation.
Last Friday, the Supreme Court reversed the historic 1973 decision to protect abortion rights. Each state determines abortion rights unless Congress acts. However, 26 states are certain or likely to ban abortion.
Lizzo continues with the importance of voting and helping give equal access to Black women and women of color.
Lizzo wasn’t the only celebrity to use her platform and speak out against SCOTUS’ decision. Former First Lady Michelle Obama, Billie Eilish, and more expressed their fears and heartbreak.
Live Nation isn’t the only music company that said they would help during this time. CAA, Sony Music, Tidal, and more vowed to reimburse for travel if it is required to access health services, including reproductive healthcare services. In an internal memo, Warner also said it supports the Center for Reproductive Rights and will match employee donations to the organization through July 31.
