Massachusetts has some of the longest living residents in US, Stacker says

Want to live a long life? You might want to try living in New England.

All the New England states made the top 25 states where people live the longest, according to Stacker. Massachusetts ranked the highest among the New England states.

Stacker reported that American life expectancy dropped in 2021 for the second year in a row and represents the largest two-year decline since 1921-1923. The average life span across the entire U.S. population is 76.1 years, which is the lowest since 1996.

Stacker said it used data from the 2023 County Health Rankings to determine the 25 states where people live the longest. The 2023 County Health Rankings values were calculated using mortality counts from the 2018-2020 National Center for Health Statistics.

Overall, Hawaii ranked the highest for longest life expectancy in the U.S.

6. Maine (ranked 25th overall)
