Medical school student’s experience as a patient put her on the path to becoming a doctor

Masanga Kiminu is used to being in medical settings, having been diagnosed with sickle cell disease as a child. Inspired by her childhood caregivers, 24-year-old Kiminu said she always knew she wanted a future in medicine.
After graduating in 2019 with a bachelor’s degree in Public Health Science from the University of Maryland College Park, Kiminu began working for a local hospital in Maryland.
