Dr. Rhonda Mattox has been named president of the Arkansas Medical, Dental and Pharmaceutical Association, the state’s oldest medical association of Black doctors.

Mattox is the first psychiatrist to lead the nonprofit organization in its 129-year history. She serves as an integrative behavioral health psychiatrist and mental health consultant to primary care providers across the state.

Mattox was previously an associate professor at UAMS in the Department of Family and Preventative Medicine, and in the Department of Psychiatry. In those roles, she conducted research and taught family medicine physicians and medical students how to integrate behavioral health into primary care, the AMDPA said in a news release.

The nonprofit association meets regularly to discuss ways to address medical challenges and health disparities in underserved communities. The group also aims to increase workforce diversity and provide members with continuing education.

Mattox of Roland serves on the Mosaic Templars of America Center for African-American Culture and Business Enterprise Advisory Board, and the Arkansas Minority Health Commission.
