University Hospital welcomes new HR chief and new SVP of wellness, DE&I

Newark’s University Hospital on Wednesday said Raquel Morian has been selected as its new chief human resources officer and Dr. Lois V. Greene has been chosen to serve as senior vice president of wellness, diversity, equity & inclusion. Greene has served in an interim capacity for over a year in a similar role and was ultimately selected from a competitive field of qualified candidates.

In her new role at the Newark health system, Morian will be responsible for the hospital’s human resources strategy and operations; talent management, including recruitment and leadership development; compensation and benefits; and labor relations.

“We are pleased to welcome Raquel to the University Hospital family,” Ed Jimenez, CEO and president of University Hospital, said. “She is a seasoned professional who has the experience and knowledge to advance the day-to-day focus on the employees of University Hospital. The value she brings to UH employees with serviceability and care will support each individual in the organization and continue to grow and foster the environment of excellence and elite patient care that we strive for daily.”

Morian joins UH from her position as human resources director and head of talent management at RWJBarnabas Health’s Newark Beth Israel Medical Center. During her time there, she was tasked in part with actively developing and implementing talent acquisition, retention and integrated staffing strategies, offering direct assistance to all departments to enhance organizational development and developing workforce planning programs. Morian also has additional experience across industries, including as the HR director for Rockland County Community College and the HR director, talent management, for the American Civil Liberties Union.

Meanwhile, in her new role, Greene will be tasked with developing and implementing programs to enhance the health outcomes and well-being of patients, employees and the communities the health system serves. Greene will also work to create strategies that foster a welcoming and inclusive environment for all members of the hospital’s community, including staff, medical professionals, patients, volunteers and visitors. She will also lead efforts to ensure access to wellness services beyond the traditional health care system, promoting social and community services as integral components of the facility’s health care approach.

“Dr. Greene brings a wealth of knowledge and commitment to the role. Her extensive background as a clinician, ranging from emergency medicine to ambulatory care and oncology, gives her a unique perspective that positions her to make a transformative impact on our community and our colleagues,” Jimenez said.

Throughout her career, Greene has exhibited her commitment to health care in various leadership capacities and board memberships. She has actively contributed to organizations such as the YMCA of Newark and Vicinity, Northeast Region board of the American Heart Association, the Concerned Black Nurses of Newark (immediate past president) and the Chi Eta Phi Nursing Sorority (where she currently holds the position of secretary). Additionally, she serves as the president of the New Jersey State Nurses Association Region 3.
