Black women are more at-risk during pregnancy but why?

It was tennis ace Serena Williams’ frightening experience in childbirth that put the question of Black women dying in pregnancy on centre court, as it were. 

Interviewed by Vogue, Serena told of having to self-diagnose a life-threatening emergency and talk her doctors through saving her after she gave birth to daughter Alexis in September 2017.
