MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL – The Minnesota Lynx will celebrate its annual Women’s Health Night presented by Mayo Clinic, your source for medical answers. Minnesota hosts the Atlanta Dream at Target Center with tipoff scheduled for 6:00 p.m. CT.
The annual night focuses on women’s health education, prevention, and care. Mayo Clinic has partnered with the Lynx to raise awareness and share educational resources.
In-game programming will include the following:
Inspiring Women Series: The Lynx series, which recognizes women in the community doing incredible work, will recognize Jess Braverman, Legal Director at Gender Justice. Braverman works to ensure that people of all genders have a meaningful right to bodily autonomy, safety, health, and opportunity. Braverman represents transgender women athletes in the courtroom, defending their rights to participate in sports free from discrimination.
Community gifts: The Minnesota Lynx will present a grant to Mayo Clinic to support cancer research focused on the key areas of prevention, prediction, diagnosis, and treatment. One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. It is the second most common cancer diagnosed among women in the U.S.
The Fastbreak Foundation, the philanthropic branch encompassing all four franchises, including the Timberwolves, Lynx, Iowa Wolves and T-Wolves Gaming, will present a community gift to the African American Breast Cancer Alliance (AABCA) to support breast cancer awareness and education. AABCA provides culturally specific education and programs to support Black women, who have the highest breast cancer mortality rate in the country.
“The Minnesota Lynx have long been dedicated to prevention, education and research in women’s health,” said Lynx President of Business Operations Carley Knox. “We are proud to once again highlight this important work in our community.”
Minnesota approaches its final regular season home game on Friday, Aug. 12. Following the game, the Lynx will celebrate legendary center Sylvia Fowles with a special postgame ceremony.
